‘Only bhashan, no shasan’: Congress takes a swipe at Modi’s ‘Achhe din’

Congress leaders dared PM Narendra Modi for a public debate over its performance and the need for the second anniversary celebrations.

The Congress on Thursday picked up a range of issues from economy and employment to terrorism and farmer suicides to attack the BJP-led NDA government on Thursday, terming its performance in the past two years as “most disappointing”.

The main opposition party fielded a battery of senior leaders across the country to counter the government’s claims of development and governance.

At the party headquarters in Delhi, senior leaders Ghulam Nabi Azad, Kapil Sibal, Mallikarjun Kharge and Randeep Singh Surjewala tore into the government, claiming it has failed on all fronts, including job creation and reviving economy.

The leaders dared PM Narendra Modi for a public debate over its performance and the need for the second anniversary celebrations.

“This government is surviving because of newspapers and news channels,” Azad said. “Modi’s foreign policy has been consistently inconsistent vis-à-vis China and Pakistan,” he added.

The opposition party said the country is witnessing drought but the government has done nothing to help farmers. “Only bhashan, no shasan (only lecture, no governance),” said Surjewala.
