Onset of winter fails to check malaria rage

MALARIA IN its most deadliest form continues to report from different parts of the district, despite the onset of winter. What is more alarming is that malaria cases are also getting reported from les mosquito-prone areas of Allahabad. The private hospitals are also witnessing malaria patients from Kaushambi district. As many as 15 malaria patients got admitted to a private nursing home at George Town, in the past few days. Most of them were found suffering from fatal plasmodium falcifarum (PF) or double-infection of PF and plasmodium vivax (PV).

The private hospitals are also witnessing malaria patients from Kaushambi district.

As many as 15 malaria patients got admitted to a private nursing home at George Town, in the past few days. Most of them were found suffering from fatal plasmodium falcifarum (PF) or double-infection of PF and plasmodium vivax (PV).

These patients included Shazia Bano (PV positive) of Mumfordganj, Farzana (PF positive) of Koraon, Amrit Lal son of Brij Lal Singh of village Channa Barokhar in Koraon, Gyan Singh, Shree Pati (PV positive) of Shankargarh, Noorain son of Hussain (PV and PF positive) of Bharatganj, Harinand Singh son of Devanand (PV positive) of village Hardiha, Allahabad, Usha (PV positive) of Bhagesar, Allahabad, Poonam (PV positive) of Basah village Post Gara, Fulan Devi (PV) of Chail, Kaushambi, Pradeep (PV and PF positive) of Bans Garahi, Dashrath (PV positive) of Koraon, Bihari (PV) of Pashchim Sharira, Kaushambi and Rani (PV) of Umari Govindpur, Rewa.

If untreated, it could lead to fatal cerebral malaria," said nursing home owner Dr Nisar Ahmed.

Dr Ahmed said a large number of patients suffering from double-infection were also admitted to the hospital. "The problem is that anti-malaria programme remains concentrated in only few malaria-prone areas of trans Yamuna region whereas the malaria patients are also getting reported from low mosquito-prone areas like Soraon, which is alarming," he said. Dr Ahmed said a new strategy need to be prepared for the control of malaria, dengue and Japanese Encephalitis. The insecticide was also not so effective to control mosquito breeding, he added.
