After doctors, nurses and vets, police personnel are now up in arms in support of their various demands, including salary hike.
The main demands of the cops are increase in the monthly salary of police inspectors from Rs 6,500 to Rs 8,000 at par with assistant surgeons, immediate implementation of the increments of 215 sub-inspectors, who were promoted in 1998, leaders of Orissa Police Association (OPA) said on Wednesday.
The association in its central executive committee meeting held at Cuttack on Sunday has given one-month time to the government to fulfil the demands.
"If the government does not filfill our demands, we will be forced to launch an agitation wearing black badges", president of the association SM Sharma said.
The salary of assistant surgeons was equivalent to that of police inspectors before a hike in doctors' salaries a fortnight ago. The government has increased the salary of assistant surgeons from Rs 6,500 to Rs 8,000 when they threatened to resign en masse, the sources said.
"The government should increase our salary and put it at par with the assistant surgeons as before", Sharma said.
He said increments should also be given to the sub-inspectors, who were not getting since last ten years. About 215 ASI had been promoted to SI in 1998. But they were not getting the increments on the ground that they had not cleared the departmental test, he said.
"When the department has not conducted the departmental test, how will these employees clear their tests", he said.
