Pak air force jet crashes near Karachi; pilot killed

A Pakistan air force jet on a training flight crashed near the southern port city of Karachi, killing the pilot, the air force said on Friday.

The F-7 aircraft went down Thursday night "apparently due to technical malfunction" about 40 kms northeast of Karachi, the air force said in a statement.

The jet's pilot, Squadron Leader Faisal Bashir, was fatally injured in the crash, which will be investigated by the Pakistan air force, the statement said.

No injuries or any damage on the ground were reported.
