Pakistan has been strengthening its defences by building some 200 concrete bunkers and embankments close to the international border in Jammu and Kashmir despite the ongoing ceasefire with India, according to the BSF.

The data collected by Border Security Force so far puts the number of new constructions by Pakistani Rangers at over 200 including 102 concrete bunkers, 30 new border posts and 78 observation towers along the IB during the past three-and- a-half-years of the Indo-Pak border truce.

"Off hand, I do not have the details but the number of constructions could be over 200. This is a cause for worry as the defence structures are closer to the Zero Line as compared to the ones demarcating the Indo-Pak border in Punjab," BSF Inspector-General (Jammu frontier) A K Surolia told PTI.

He said the structures were within 70 metres of zero line and "some concrete bunkers overlook the fence at BSF's Nikowal border observation post while the towers allow Pakistani Rangers to closely monitor India's forward positions and troop movement".
