A day before the visit of prime minister Narendra Modi to the state, Pakistan reportedly made an unsuccessful attempt to push in terrorists from across the Line of Control in Mendhar area in Poonch district early Thursday morning.
A defence spokesperson said according to colonel Munish Mehta, a group of terrorists, who had crossed over to the Indian territory in Krishna Ghati sector, was spotted by the troops in the early hours of Thursday.
The terrorists fired at the troops on being challenged and there was heavy exchange of fire from both sides.
Pakistan had fired heavy mortar shells in the forward areas of the Poonch district on June 12, a day before the first visit of Arun Jaitely as defence minister. Though there was no civilian casuality, livestock had died.
Defence sources said the terrorists had probably moved back. The army is still carrying a search operation in the area. Local senior police officials have also reached the spot.

{{/usCountry}}Pakistan has been firing regularly along the LoC in the Rajour-Poonch sector of Jammu division for the last one week with an aim to push in terrorists. DGP K Rajendra had recently said this year only 10 terrorists had managed to sneak in to the Indian side.
