The 11-member delegation led by Shafiq Mir, chairman, All-Jammu and Kashmir Panchayat Conference, discussed with the governor the status of the functioning of panchayats in the state and complained that effective measures were not being taken for their empowerment.

Among the issues raised by the delegation, the governor was concerned over to hear about the security problems faced by the sarpanches and panches.

The delegation was also dissatisfied about the provisions of the 73rd constitutional amendment not incorporated in the existing law for ensuring empowerment of Panchayati Raj Institutions in the state.

The governor assured the panchayat conference that all the issues raised by them would be taken up with the chief minister.
