The Panchayat has also banned use of helicopters on such occasions.

Hundreds of villagers from over three dozen villages attended the Panchayat.

Initially, the started the movement had begun from Bambad village and now extends to over 40 villages.

Some villages which were part of the Panchayat include Sonpur, Roopvas, Khedi, Kailashpur, Bambawad, Dhoom Manik Pur, Kot, Dujiana, Maycha, Chithera and Dabra.

“Speakers at the Panchayat stated that it was observed that serving of liquor at marriages spoiled several functions and revelry shots had even killed bridgegrooms in some places,” said Harpal Singh from Sonpur village.

“Also, DJ music system and dance floor were the cause of several clashes between youths. The Panchayat banned these activities,” he added.

“The rising trend of use of helicopters is a matter of deep concern. It creates a rift between the haves and the have-nots. In view of this, the Panchayat banned the use of helicopters,” said Bihari Singh from Roopvas village.

“The Panchayat directed all members not to give or accept dowry,” he added.

“Further, it was decided that only members from the native village will accompany the marriage procession. VVIPs, either political or otherwise, from outside the village, will not be invited for the function,” said Ramvir Singh of Khedi village.
