The Indian fashion industry is poised for a giant leap forward with six designers being invited to showcase their works at a prestigious international fashion and photography contest in southern France April 28-30.
"Based on their success at (the fashion week), Anamika Khanna, Anju Modi, Manish Arora, Meera Muzaffar Ali, Rohit Bal and Rajesh Pratap Singh will be representing the Indian fashion industry" at the Festival International des Arts de la Mode et de la Photographie at the Villa Noailles, it was announced here Monday.
They have been selected by French fashion guru Didier Grumbach, who heads his country's fashion design council, and Maria Luisa, the owner of a swish chain of Paris stores named after her. Both had attended the India Fashion Week here from April 5-9.
The Chambre Syndical de la Couture, the organiser of the Paris Fashion Week, has put together an audio-visual presentation of the works of the six designers and this will be viewed during an "India Evening" on the concluding day of the festival Sunday.
"The event has been planned so as to highlight and showcase Indian fashion design, which is becoming increasingly popular all over the world," Rathi Vinay Jha, director general of the Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI) that organises the India Fashion Week, said in a statement.

"This is one of many initiatives through which the FDCI aims to provide a platform for its member designers to enable them to showcase their creativity to a global audience," Jha said.
Some 800 French and international invitees, comprising professionals, buyers, designers and the media are likely to attend the India Evening, which Jha and Grumbach will address.
