Parties flay hike in petrol, diesel prices

The agitated Yuva Morcha activists were raising slogans against the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and UPA chaiperson Sonia Gandhi for hike in petrol and diesel by Rs 4 and Rs 2 respectively.

The speakers were of the view that the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government had completely failed on economic front and that’s shy the Union government had to hike the prices of petrol and diesel fifth-time in its two-year tenure. They also urged the Union government to withdraw hike in the interest of common people.

Mahanagar unit president of the BJP, Kailash Keshari said that price rise in petrol and diesel would further increase the cost of consumer goods. “The UPA government has hiked the price of petrol and diesel by Rs 17 and Rs 12 respectively in its two years tenure, which indicate its failure on economic front,” he said. Morch’s Mahanagar unit president, Vivek Narayan Singh demanded resignation of the Union Petroleum Minister, Murli Deora and immediate withdrawal of hike.
