This is the first ever visit by a Union home minister to Gadchiorli, where Central paramilitary forces have been deployed to counter the naxal threat.

He arrived at the Maoist-dominated district at around 10:00am and held a meeting with Maharashtra home minister R R Patil, minister of state for home Pratik Patil, DGP D Sivanandan and other senior officers from revenue and police departments.

Meanwhile, some MLAs and MLCs were annoyed when they were not allowed to attend the meeting.

Chidambaram, however, met them individually later.

He did not speak to the media and there was no official briefing after the meeting.
