"Our plea to Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan is that he should urgently take up this matter with the Karnataka Government", Peoples Democratic Party Working Chairman Poonthura Siraj told reporters here.

The Centre should also intervene in the matter and ensure that Madani received humanitarian consideration, he said.

He said the PDP was not asking government to intervene in the merit of the case charged against Madani as it was confident that his innocence will be proved in court.

Siraj said the medical team that examined Madani the day before his arrest had suggested in their report that his health was poor and he required hospitalisation.

The PDP leader alleged that Karnataka police did not adhere to the norms to be followed during the arrest.

He said the party's leaders would meet next week and decide on the protest programmes. However, the protests would be organised in a democratic and peaceful manner without creating any sort of divisions in society, he added.

Ending an eight-day long suspense, Madani, listed as an accused in the 2008 Bangalore serial blasts case, was arrested by Karnataka police amid high drama at Anwarassery in Kollam.

He has been remanded to police custody till August 26 by a magistrate in Bangalore in connection with the case.
