Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi said here on Tuesday that he had taken up the issue of the price rise with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who told him all efforts were being made to check it.
“I actually held discussions with the Prime Minister on the issue. I asked him about the rise in prices of pulses and he said all efforts were on to improve the situation,” Gandhi said.
The prices of essential commodities were soaring due to various factors and the government was making sincere efforts to control them, he said, adding that the impact of anti-inflationary measures would begin to show soon.
Gandhi is on a two-day visit to Madhya Pradesh to revitalise and engage with two of the Congress’s frontal organisations — the National Students Union of India (NSUI) and the Youth Congress.
On the ongoing process of introducing a transparent system of elections in the NSUI, Rahul Gandhi said, “Democracy has flourished in the country for a long time but no political party paid heed to the concept of internal democracy.”

{{/usCountry}}To a question on holding open organisational polls in the Congress party, Gandhi said that it was for senior leaders and the party president to decide.
“It will take some time to introduce the system of internal democracy in the Congress,” he said.
