In a major haul, Jammu and Kashmir Police on Monday recovered 100 kg RDX explosives from an abandoned house in Srinagar and claimed to have foiled a plan by terrorists to carry out serial bombings in the city during the Republic Day celebrations.
Afadul Hassan Mujtaba, senior superintendent of police, said that following a tip-off police raided an abandoned house in Zakura area of Chattabal in downtown Srinagar from where the RDX was recovered.
The explosives had been stored by Al-Badr terrorists to carry out a series of bombings in Srinagar city around Republic Day, he said.
The raids were conducted after police intercepted wireless messages of the terrorists referring to the house an "old post office", the official said.
No arrests have been made so far.
In other raids following intelligence inputs, police raided three other places and seized 10 kg of brown sugar and rounded up some locals.
