In a case of suspected honour killing, a 17-year-old girl was brutally gunned down in Masuri area of Ghaziabad on Thursday morning. The victim's family has, however, filed a police complaint against their next-door neighbours, accusing them of dacoity and murder.

According to a senior police officer, the victim was shot at point-blank range from a country-made weapon.

Initial investigations reveal that the victim was friendly to the neighbour's son, Wasim Ahmed, 26, and they were spotted together during early hours of Thursday morning.

"When some of the girl's family members spotted them, they took Ahmed hostage inside their house. When his family members arrived, both the families had an altercation, after which, the girl was found shot dead," the police officer said.

Masuri police station officer, Manish Saxena, informed that the girl had eloped with Ahmed around a week ago and had returned after her family assured that they would approve of their marriage.

"Although an FIR has been registered, we are also probing into the honour killing angle," SSP Raghubir Lal said.
