“We can’t say anything now. The picture will become clear after the police record a senior scientist’s statement on Monday,” Additional Superintendent of Police Manohar Verma said.

All the three scientists are attached to the Defence Research and Development Establishment (DRDE).

The institute has formed a three-member committee to look into the matter and submit its report by October 28.

M Kameshwar Rao, the main accused, is expected to resume work on Monday after five days’ leave. The police will record his statement.

Shradha Sharma, wife of a junior defence scientist, had complained to the police that her husband Sushil was called by senior scientists Rao and ABN Bhaskar to Rao’s residence on October 6 because Rao was stated to be unwell.

While waiting for them to finish the puja Sushil fell asleep and woke up feeling that water was being sprinkled on him, Shradha said. The two scientists tried to kill her husband with sharp-edged weapons, she alleged.

“As he raised an alarm, a security guard rushed in, and Sushil fled,” Verma said, quoting Shradha.
