Police vigil in Haryana village after IAS-IFS wedding hits caste wall

Police have been deployed at Pathrawali village of Bhiwani after some members of the Brahmin community objected to the inter caste wedding between a Brahmin girl -- Indian Foreign Service officer, Neelam Sharma posted in Moscow with a Gujarat cadre IAS officer, Kuldeep Arya who comes from the Ahir community. Bhiwani Superintendent of Police, Ashwin told HT that though the situation was absolutely normal in Pathrawali, they have deputed men in uniform as well as plain clothes. "We are keeping a close vigil," he said.

Ashwin said that only some anti-social elements from the community were objecting to the wedding. "There is no threat perception. The girl’s family and Neelam herself are absolutely fine. I myself have spoken to her," he said. Police officials said that no written complaint or representation has so far been received by the police in this regard.

Sampuran Singh , president, Yuva Shanti Sena, said that panchayat was avoiding any comment on the issue because various social organizations have come out in support of Neelam. Villagers say that as the word of this inter caste marriage spread in the village some villagers raised objections to the marriage. The matter reached the gram panchayat which summoned Neelam’s uncle .
