In the last one and a half years, two 55 MW Thermal plants in NIT area in Faridabad have been closed and the third one will close on March 31.

Faridabad Deputy Commissioner Praveen Kumar said, “The step has been taken to reduce air-pollution in Faridabad.”

V.K. Vashisht, Superintending Engineer, Haryana Power Generation Corporation, Faridabad, said the closure of the third power plant would affect the city's power supply.

“This plant produces 9.46 lakh units in 24 hours,” the officials said.

“Faridabad's peak time demand during last June-July was 11.8 million units, which is likely to cross 12.5 million units this summer,” said J.B.Mudgil, superintending engineer, Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam.

Industrial areas in Faridabad presently face a scheduled power cut of eight hours a day, followed by 8 to 12 hours cut in rural areas and 6 to 8 hours cut in urban areas.

The city has already witnessed a number of protests against scarcity of power.
