Punjab bans Madhuri film Aaja Nachle

The Punjab government on Saturday banned Bollywood star Madhuri Dixit's comeback film Aaja Nachle from being screened in the state for allegedly derogatory reference to a caste in a song.

The ban came just a day after the film was released in theatres across the state.

A government spokesman said the film had been banned due to objectionable lines in its title song.

Punjab has a high concentration of Dalit population - 29 per cent of the total population of nearly 25 million.

The Uttar Pradesh government had Friday banned the film in that state following objections raised by Dalit leaders regarding certain portions of the title song.
