Prime Minister Narendra Modi informed two relatives of Netaji on Wednesday that the Centre has already initiated a dialogue with Russian president Vladimir Putin on the issue of accessing KGB files on Bose and that Sushma Swaraj has written to Japan, Russia, Britain and Germany on laying their hands on the secret files in their countries.

On January 23, the birth anniversary of Netaji, the Centre will start declassifying 200 files on the leader.

Bose’s grand nephew Chandra Bose and grand niece Madhuri Bose met the PM at his office. They spoke for 33 minutes on the issue of accessing files related to Bose in different countries and the preparation in Delhi.

“We requested him to pursue the KGB files personally with Putin when he visits that country this month. He said that a dialogue with the Russian president has already been initiated. Secret files with KGB are of immense importance regarding Netaji’s disappearence,” Chandra Bose said.

Files that are being digitised will be kept at the national archives in Delhi. “The PM will unveil the files in the capital. We met some of the officials engaged in the declassification and digitisation of the files. Work is on round the clock,” he added.

Though officially it is maintained that Netaji died of third degree burns on August 8, 1945, most members of his extended family and many countrymen suspect the veracity of the claim and believe that he was alive even after 1945.
