Quake jolts Kyrgyzstan; no casualties reported

A magnitude 5.8 earthquake struck northern Kyrgyzstan, but there were no immediate reports of injuries.

The quake, which occurred at about 2 am, was centered in the border area between the Naryn and Issyk-Kul regions.

Russia's ITAR-Tass new agency reported.

The US National Earthquake Information Center in Golden, Colorado, said the quake registered 5.8 on the Richter scale and occurred at a depth of 6 miles (9.7 kilometres).

While there were no immediate reports of casualties, ITAR-Tass reported.

Additional details were not immediately available.
