DESPITE THE cakewalk for Sonia Gandhi in the recently-held Rae Bareli by-elections, she now faces a challenge in her constituency from students opposing the proposed OBC reservation in higher education.
Under the Youth for Equality banner, these students have decided to remind Sonia about the views of Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi.
Youth for Equality has started a bus yatra from Mumbai in which it is highlighting the problems of anti-quota students.
The yatra will reach Lucknow on July 23, informed UP coordinator of Youth for Equality, Chandrashekhar of IIT-K.
After a welcome meeting at Ambedkar Maidan in Lucknow, the bus will move to Rae Bareli where members will address the public at Rae Bareli super market.
He said that the members would detail the plight of the primary schools in Rae Bareli whereas Sonia is trying to implement reservation in higher education.
He said that the members will remind citizens that Nehru had once said that implementing reservation will make India a third grade country. Similarly, Indira Gandhi had said, “I do not want to compromise on talent at the cost of reservation in higher education.” Talking about Mandal Commission, Rajiv Gandhi too had said that the report was made in haste.
Chandrashekhar said that from Rae Bareli, the yatra would head for Kanpur before leaving for Delhi on July 24.
