Railway minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday said that the proposed DMU plant in Howrah district would not be set up following CPI-M's "opposition" and an alternate site would be named within a day or two.
"We wanted to set up the DMU factory at Sankrail. But it will not come up there. I will announce tomorrow or day after where the unit will be set up. But it will come up in Bengal," Banerjee told a railway programme here.
She said that the land at Sankrail would remain with the Railways.
Banerjee said that the CPI-M had earlier asked why the factory had not been set up, and then the party opposed it when it was decided to set up the Diesel Multiple Unit (DMU) plant.
Earlier, addressing a public rally here Banerjee said that the DMU factory could be set up in Singur.
"If they (the Left Front government) gives the land in Singur, we can set up the DMU factory here. It will take no time," she said.
"Singur is the birthplace of our movement. There will be industry here besides agriculture. Our first task (of setting up industry) will begin from Singur."

{{/usCountry}}Falling back on her stand that 400 acre of the land acquired for Tata Motors should be returned to farmers who had unwillingly parted with their land and the remaining 600 acre be used for industry, she said "I have stated earlier that industry be set up on 600 acre in Singur and 400 acre returned to unwilling farmers.
"I am saying the same thing today. I have one face, I don't wear a mask. If you want you can set up factory in 600 acre," Banerjee said.
