Rajasthan to embrace VAT from April 1

Chief Minister Vasundhra Raje announced this while presenting the state budget for 2006-07.

The BJP government in Rajasthan on Wednesday proposed to embrace Value-Added Tax (VAT) from April 1 in the interest of industrial development and export of indigenous goods.

Chief Minister Vasundhra Raje announced this while presenting the state budget for 2006-07.

She also announced setting up of a 'public grievances commission' on VAT related issues.

Items such as rakhi, kripan, chalk, kites and some eatables would be exempted from the new tax.
