Or maybe it was the politics of UP of which he has been the chief minister. But Rajnath Singh on Saturday committed a minor faux pas by announcing that he would address his first media briefing as BJP president at Lucknow.

After realising his mistake, he immediately corrected himself saying the press conference would be in Delhi after he formally takes over the post at BJP's Asoka Road office at 9.30 am on January two.

Singh later touched the feet of Advani and was also garlanded by the latter.

At the press conference, Singh was seated to the right of Advani. BJP general secretary, described as `Laxman' by AB Vajpayee, was to Singh's right.
