A resolution unanimously adopted by the Rajya Sabha said, "deeply concerned over the escalation of this conflict which affects India's security and other vital interests, this House calls for an immediate and unconditional ceasefire so that further destruction of Lebanon is prevented."

The resolution, read out by Chairman Bhairon Singh Shekhawat, unequivocally condemned the large-scale and indiscriminate Israeli bombing of Lebanon that has killed a large number of innocent people and caused widespread damage to civilian infrastructure.

"This House conveys the deepest condolences, sympathy and support of the people of India to the people of Lebanon at this difficult time," it said adding that India was ready to provide humanitarian relief to the people of Lebanon.

Urging all parties to the conflict to eschew violence and return to the path of dialogue, the resolution said lasting peace and security could be achieved in the region.
