Minister for law, justice and parliamentary affairs, Mir Saifullah on Friday informed the House that the government has appointed justice ML Koul (retd) as inquiry commission to look into the recent Shopian incidents.
He was reacting to an issue raised by Leader of the Opposition, Mehbooba Mufti during the Zero Hour in the House.
The minister said the process of shifting the CRPF camp from Gagran in Shopian has already begun and it will be totally removed by October 10.
Four people, including a Pakistani militant, were killed in firing by security forces on September 7. While CRPF claimed those killed were militants, statements from police revealed that three persons killed on that day had no police records. Locals had also alleged that the person claimed to be a Pakistani resident was actually a "Bihari labourer". Another civilian was killed in firing on September 11.
Replying the adjournment motion a few days back moved by the main opposition party and other parties pertaining to the incidents of Shopian, Kishtwar, Gool, Markundal, Samba and Hiranagar, the chief minister had said various statements pertaining to the Shopian incident issued by the police and other security agencies have created a situation where judicial probe is necessitated.
Omar Abdullah said he will ask the law department to issue necessary notification in this regard and make the probe by a retired high court judge a time-bound matter. "People should know the veracity of the event in which five people have lost their lives," he said.

{{/usCountry}}"Sweet or bitter, we are bound to tell people of Shopian the truth about the incident. If any security staff is guilty, he will be punished by the courts and whatever action is possible, will be taken," he had said.
Abdullah, however, added that he was convinced that one of the victims was a militant but antecedents of the others need to be ascertained.
