The Meghalaya Government expects to fully implement the Right to Education Act in the State by 2012, education minister Ampareen Lyngdoh has said.
Replying to queries by legislator Manas Chaudhuri in the assembly yesterday, Ampareen said the financial details in this regard were yet to be worked out. Stating that the government has prepared a road map for implementation of Right to Education, the minister said the salient features included adoption of rules for the right of children for free and compulsory education, besides constitution of authority for regulating protection of child rights.
"Constitution of a state advisory council besides restructuring of number of school days also also on the anvil," she said. "Rules will be taken up for final approval by Government," she said.
Definition and demarcation of neighbourhoods as per RTE norms, designation of local authority with administrative control, reconstitution of school management committee with 75 per cent members of parents, 25 per cent members of local authority, teachers, local educationist and school children, were the other salient features, the minister said.
"GIS mapping of all elementary schools for identifying the resource gap, construction of additional classroom, enrollment of all children of 6 to 14 age groups appropriate to their age and improvement in quality education by adequately training teachers and improving school infrastructure," she added to the salient points.
