Cold wave sweeping most parts of Punjab and Haryana on Saturday intensified, with Rohtak and Amritsar registering bone-chilling minimum temperatures.
Rohtak in Haryana and Amritsar in Punjab braved the season's coldest night so far at 0 degrees Celsius and 0.5 degrees Celsius each, down by six and 3 notches respectively, the MET said in Chandigarh.
Biting cold also prevailed in most parts of Haryana, including Karnal, registering the season's lowest minimum so far at 1.9 deg C, down six degrees.
Ambala also shivered as the low fell by five degrees to settle at 2.3 deg C. Severe cold swept Narnaul at 4.5 deg C, down by two notches while the low at Hisar was 6.8 deg C.
There was no respite from cold wave for the people in Chandigarh, where the minimum settled at 4.2 deg C, down two notches.
Ludhiana and Patiala in Punjab were also under the influence of piercing cold, recording respective minimums of 3.1 deg C and 3.7 deg C, down three notches each.
Cold wave conditions in the region are likely to continue over the next few days, according to the Met Department forecast.
