Royal saloon of Kashi Naresh to be renovated

IN A bid to lure domestic and foreign tourists, the Tourism Department and Railway Administration are jointly gearing up to renovate and conserve a royal saloon of Kashi Naresh, which was lying in dilapidated condition at a yard of Cantonment railway station since 1945.

IN A bid to lure domestic and foreign tourists, the Tourism Department and Railway Administration are jointly gearing up to renovate and conserve a royal saloon of Kashi Naresh, which was lying in dilapidated condition at a yard of Cantonment railway station since 1945.

A joint delegation of Tourism Department and Railway administration including regional tourist officer, Anoop Srivastava, assistant superintendent of archeology Ajay Srivastva, assistant divisional mechanical engineer AK Srivastva, chief development officer RB Dubey and Narayan Singh Bhayal, GM of a renowned hotel took stock of the royal saloon at Cantonment railway station on Friday.

Talking to Hindustan Times, regional tourist officer Anoop Srivastava said that Tourism Department and Railway administration were preparing a proposal for the renovation, conservation and beautification of royal saloon, kept in dilapidated condition at Cantonment railway station.

Srivastava informed that this royal saloon has not been used since 1945, therefore in the first phase, it would be renovated and beautified. “After beautification, this saloon would be kept at suitable place in Cantonment railway station for the public and tourists view,” he said and further informed that he has asked the Railway administration to select a suitable place at cantonment railway station for keeping the saloon. “Close on the heels of ‘Palace on Wheels’ in Rajasthan, a broad gauge line would be set up between Ramnagar and Varanasi for plying of this royal saloon for the tourists”, he said and added that royal saloon to be named as ‘Orient Trail’, would start from Baba Awdhut Ram halt to Ramnagar and a famous tourist spot of Varanasi, Sarnath.

It may be mentioned that this royal saloon was manufactured by Bern and Bern Company of Howrah. This saloon included all the luxurious facilities and Burmese teak was used in the manufacturing of this saloon.

This royal saloon had been made exclusively to facilitate the then Kashi Naresh during the pre-Independence period of country. All the luxurious facilities like royal dining room, drying room, bathroom, bathtub and kitchen had been installed at that time to facilitate King of Kashi.
