Rs 9 crore package for JE hospital in Gorakhpur

Mulayam Singh announced a grant of Rs 9 cr for the BRDM College after laying the foundation of its encephalitis research centre.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav on Monday announced a grant of Rs 9 crore for the Baba Raghav Das Medical College in Gorakhpur after laying the foundation of its encephalitis research centre.

Besides the Rs 9 crore package for the college and hospital that have been treating patients of Japanese Encephalitis on every year, he said the government would take steps to restore recognition by the Medical Council of India to the college.

"Everything needed to fulfil the norms of MCI would be done to get the college recognised," Yadav said.

JE has taken thousands of lives, mostly children under 14, in eastern Uttar Pradesh and this year alone the toll crossed 1,000 in the state.

Yadav also inaugurated four power stations and an over bridge in the town. The bridge was already being used by the public as Gorakhpur BJP MP Yogi Adityanath had earlier it.
