Sahara chief Subrata Roy has moved the Supreme Court requesting that he be allowed to move into an “outhouse” within Tihar jail premises to hold negotiations with prospective buyers of his international properties.
In a fresh application filed Roy has sought the concession of having a separate area in the jail earmarked for him to hold the talks.
This would have separate entrance and would not expose the prospective buyers or lenders to the glare of media, rival competitors, other inmates and prison officials.
Senior advocate Rajeev Dhawan mentioned the matter before a bench headed by justice TS Thakur who asked solicitor general Ranjit Kumar to respond. Roy’s application, which promises of “hammering” out a concrete proposal with prospective buyers, comes two days after the SC rejected his plea for parole or bail. It agreed to let him be out of jail for six hours on any day to finalise his deal but asked for a concrete proposal.
The Sahara chief is in jail since March 4 and can come out only when he deposits Rs 10,000 crore to market regulator SEBI.
