SBI to hire 1,000 more in Gujarat

India's largest lender State Bank of India today said it would recruit close to 1,000 more people this year, open 70 new branches and install 300 ATM's in Gujarat.

"We at SBI created around 1,500 jobs last year and shall be adding around 1,000 more employees this year and will open 70 new branches in Gujarat, besides installation of 300 ATM's" Chief General Manager(SBI,Gujarat) P Nand Kumaran said. The bank has registered a sharp increase in its mobile banking business in the state.

"The state has emerged as a trend-setter in mobile banking. Nearly 40 per cent of the customers registered under mobile banking services for SBI are from Gujarat," Kumaran claimed.

"The bank has brought 77,266 customers under the fold of mobile banking so far. On an average around 1,000 new customers are getting registered per day at our branches in Gujarat circle," he said.

"Total deposits of the bank in Gujarat as of March end stood at Rs 49,911 crore and we are targeting addition of Rs 12,800 crore by this fiscal end," Kumaran said.

SBI's market share in deposits has increased to 22.4 per cent in the year ending March from 14.35 per cent in 2008, he said.
