Former Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh who got a reprieve today with the Supreme Court quashing his expulsion from the State Assembly, said the apex court's verdict proves his ouster was a "blatant act of political vendetta" by the Badal Government.
"This (his expulsion) lawlessness and blatant act of political vendetta at the hands of Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal has been proved by the Supreme Court," Singh said reacting to the verdict in a statement here.
Singh, who is in Dubai, said the verdict should send a clear message to Badal that the country has a Constitution and an established law, which protects an individual from those who profess the law of the jungle.
"The Badal Government, in the hope of stifling dissent and thereby insulting itself from protracted criticism in the Vidhan Sabha, contrived to get me expelled by its brute majority," he said adding that "by doing so it violated the Constitution, having no powers to do so, the matter by then being in the domain of judiciary."
Asserting that he had "highest regard" for the judiciary, Singh said it was one institution that had consistently stood against acts of highhandedness on the part of brute majority governments, which violate the Constitution and attempt to bend law to suit their political convenience.

In a major relief for Singh, a Constitution bench of the Supreme Court today quashed his expulsion from the State Assembly for his alleged involvement in the Amritsar land allotment scam.
