The Supreme Court on Wednesday restrained a Raipur court from pronouncing the final verdict in the Ramavtar Jaggi murder case in which former Chhattisgarh chief minister Ajit Jogi's son Amit is the main accused.
The order came on a petition filed by Satish Jaggi, son of Ramavtar Jaggi, NCP's Chhattisgarh unit treasurer, who was shot dead on June 4, 2003.
A three-judge Bench headed by Justice KG Balakrishnan fixed December 11 to hear the petition.
Satish has challenged a Chhattisgarh High Court order rejecting his plea for transfer of the case from the present court.
He has sought transfer of the case on the ground that the judge conducting the trial is a relative of a Congress leader who is close to the Jogi family.
On behalf of the petitioner, senior counsel Arun Jaitley submitted that there was a genuine apprehension that the victim's family will not get justice as the Sessions Judge conducting the trial is the brother of Congress MLA Gulab Singh, who is a close to Ajit Jogi.
He said recording of prosecution and defence evidence was already over and final and if the case was not transferred the trial court will pronounce the verdict in the case very soon as the Chhattisgarh High Court has directed the completion of trial by the end of this month.
