"The families should submit the details of the missing people to their nearest police post or police station," SCRB director Laik Ram Dabas told Hindustan Times on Saturday.

Dabas said the superintendents of police had been directed to ask station house officers (SHOs) and in charge of police posts to take up the matter on priority. "We will share the database with the Uttarakhand authorities through the Haryana police's camp at Dehra Dun to trace the missing people. This is a tough time and the bureau will do its best to help the aggrieved families," he said.

The official said the families should provide information on the date the victims left for Uttarakhand, their destination, time and place they last called them. "We will compile the data on daily basis and forwarded it to the Uttarakhand authorities every evening. It will help to assess the number of rescued or missing people at inhospitable places of the hill state," the SCRB director said.
