State Senator Satveer Chaudhary, the first Indian-American senator ever elected to state office in Minnesota, is seeking re-election.
"What an honour it is to fight for working families: to create jobs, cut property taxes, improve education, transportation and healthcare. It's a mission I will pursue in 2007 and beyond," Chaudhary said in a press release.
The senator also said that if he was voted back in November, he would continue his work to give law enforcement the tools needed to keep families safe from identity theft and cyber crime.
Senator Chaudhary serves on nine committees and subcommittees and has been a strong champion of protecting and preserving Minnesota's natural resources.
The 37-year-old senator recently gave a boost to economic development and job growth in the Minnesota region by authoring legislation for an additional $3 million in state funding for development of the Northwest Quadrant in New Brighton.
Recently, the worldwide Indian American community recognised his dedicated work, naming Chaudhary to a list of top 50 non-resident Indians in the world (NRI World magazine).
In 2000, Chaudhary became the first Indian American senator in American history.
In 1996, when he was elected State Representative, he became the first Indian-American member of the Minnesota Legislature and only the fourth Asian-Indian elected to a state legislature in the United States.

{{/usCountry}}Senator Chaudhary was born in Minnesota. He graduated from Columbia Heights High School. He furthered his education from the University of Minnesota Law School and Oxford University.
