There was a time not so long ago, Bollywood celebs used to throng the venue of the Lakme Fashion Week (LFW). Luckily for me, there were barely any in the first couple of days of the event. There were so many that time, that the event was more like a fashion cum movie star kind of an affair.

If the first couple of days can be taken as an indication of what is to come in the remaining three days, I feel that the event will have more of fashion than film stars.

I never understood the concept of show stoppers that these fashion designers used to drag on to the runway. Today I saw Puja Batra coming as one in one of the designer shows. The crowd didn’t move. It just sat there watching the former actress walk the runway like any other model. So, my point is that if the show stopper does not make an impact then why have one in the first place?

But no one seemed to care in the past so much so that every other designer presenting the collection on the runway had some one or the other appearing as show stopper. On the first day evening of LFW I saw actress Mallika Sherawat making her grand entry into Anita Dongre’s showing. It was more for her own PR than that of the designer that she came it seems for she seemed more keen spending time posing for the shutterbugs than going to her seat and occupying the same.

But the fact is that more than journalists, fashion designers know that if they do this that’s one way of getting the attention of the newspapers. Even with this, I was pleasantly surprised not to see too many walking on the runway so far this time. I am not sure whether this is because of the fact that actors are busy or not, the fact is that they hardly are here now.

Anyway, there are three more days to go and I know well that it’s too early to predict anything. If a day comes when there is no one other than the collections on the runway to attract the attention of the people and the media, I would then say that our fashion too has come of age!
