The marriage of the elder sister had been fixed recently and was scheduled later this year. Poor financial state of the family is believed to have prompted them to end their lives.

CSP Rajesh Bhadoria said Vandana, 22 and Dhanvantri, 24, both graduates, hanged themselves by the ceiling. Their elder brother Vinod had gone to watch a film with his wife and younger brother Ajit to his pan shop. Their parents are away on a pilgrimage to Hardwar.

When Ajit returned, he found the door shut. Getting no response after repeated knocks, he broke a window pane only to find his sisters hanging.

With the help of neighbours, he rushed them to a hospital but doctors declared them brought dead. Both the girls had studied in Nutan College.

The neighbours told police that Vandana and Dhanvantri, also called Beena and Pinki, were cordial and hardly seen outside. Police were yet to interrogate the girl’s brothers as they were quite shocked by the tragedy..
On the basis of interrogation with neighbours, police figured out that the girls probably felt that they were proving to be a burden on their parents.
