Snubbed by cops, court comes to help of 18-yr-old rape victim

She claimed her father raped her for months and she subsequently gave birth in March. "Even my mother did not support me as she feared this would defame the family. I went to the police but they said if your father was doing this, they could not do anything. They asked me to go," she alleged. "I went to the SSP’s office but I wasn’t allowed to meet him.”

The police, on the other hand, said the girl never went to a police station or approached any senior police officer.

"I have checked the records, she never came to us. We are yet to register a case as we have not received a copy of the court's order," said Shyamakant Tripathi, station house officer, sector 39 police station.

The girl's lawyer, Yogesh Kumar Solanki, said, "In June last year, the girl was alone at home and was sick when her father tried to rape her. When the victim tried to resist, her father started beating her and raped her." Last December the girl had managed to run away and escape.
