Actor-director Sachin Pilgaonkar is making sure he doesn’t lose out on the new-age audience as well as his contemporaries with his latest film. For the sequel of Ankhiyon Ke Jharokhon Se (1978), titled Jaana Pehchana, he is mixing scenes from the 1978 hit film while taking the story forward.
Sachin says, “We are showing portions of Ankhiyon… as part of a flashback.” He adds that people, who haven’t seen the old film, won’t miss much. “The way the story is told, it covers what happened in the earlier film. Since my character (Arun Prakash Mathur) is narrating his story to a new girl in his life, the audience will get a taste of the old movie while watching this one.”
However, the director admits the idea to make the sequel wasn’t his. He reveals, “Raj babu (Rajkumar Barjatya from Rajshri films) approached his son Sooraj to make this film but Sooraj felt only I could do justice to this film since its close to my heart.”
But, how did he find Ranjeeta after all these years? Were they in touch? He says, “No. She got married and moved to the US but Raj found her. Her son and husband were uncomfortable with her doing this film and she too had inhibitions. But after we had a chat, she was happy to be on board.”
Sachin is not only acting and directing the film, he has also written the script of the sequel. Ask him why he didn’t cast younger actors and he says, “If it was a remake, we wouldn’t have fit the bill. But this is a sequel and the story demands that we be there. In the earlier film, Arun was left alone after his beloved’s demise. In the sequel, his beloved’s lookalike comes into his life. The film talks about what happens after that.”
