A THREE-DAY annual sringar and music concert of Baba Shamshan Nath began at ‘Mahashamshan’ (Manikarnika Ghat) here in Varanasi on Monday.

It was an unusual scene as the Manikarnika Ghat, where cremation is performed round the clock, echoed with Vedic mantras and devotional songs on Monday. The three-day religious programme is being organised by Sri Sri 1008 Maha Pracheen Baba Shamshan Nath Sangharsh Samiti.
The three-day religious function began with ‘Rudrabhishek’ of Baba Shamshan Nath on Monday. Apart from this, Maha Aarti and Hariyali Sringar of Baba Shamshan Nath were also performed on the occasion.
Later, a bhajan sandhya was organised late in the evening in which Rakesh Tiwari and company rendered a number of devotional songs.
General secretary of the samiti Bihari Lal Gupta informed that folk artistes would stage a number of cultural programmes on Wednesday evening. A grand religious procession was taken out from Bhoot Bhairo temple in Kashipura area late on Tuesday evening which culminated at Manikarnika Ghat.
