A three-member team of doctors led by Dr R K Mathur operated Ramdev Nigam, a retired Indore Municipal Corporation employee, to successfully remove the stone with an open surgery. “The operation lasted for about 2 hours. Apart from out team, Anaesthetic Dr Manish Banjare was present for the surgery,” according to Dr Sudershan Odiya, who was part of the operating team.

Ramdev’s son Jagadambaprasad said, his father passed blood through urine last year when we took him to the doctor. They started investigations and it was found that he had stone. After retirement, he had gone to our village in Uttar Pradesh, but came here to get himself operated at M Y.

“Generally, when the stone is so big, the kidney function is affected. But fortunately this person’s kidney was functioning normally,” according to Dr Odiya.

The patient would be discharged after 10 days, he added. When asked if this was a rare kind of stone, the Urology expert informed this was not a rare thing in the medical world but “this can possibly be a first such case at M Y Hospital.”
