The High Court also asked the concerned parties to submit a report on the purity of river in Allahabad.

The order was passed on a public interest litigation (PIL) filed by Brahmchari Hari Chaitanyaji Maharaj, who prayed that the state government be directed to release water in the river during the 'Magh Mela'.

A two judge bench comprising Justice SR Alam and Justice Sudhir Agrawal fixed the date of report submission on January 31.

The board informed the court that 450 cusecs of water was released from Narora on January 25 and is expected to reach the city by the night of January 28.

It argued that pollution in the river was due to the non-availibility of water.
