Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi has appealed to the masses to maintain calm and has also said that strict action against the perpetrators would be taken.
"Some people with vested interests are unhappy with the manner in which the state was progressing and maintaining peace," Modi said.
Law enforcement agencies would take necessary steps to restore peace and normality at the earliest, he said in a statement.
Modi, presently in south Gujarat, is expected to visit Vadodara to take stock of the situation.
Gujarat DGP PC Pande, state Home Minister Amit Shah and three senior IPS officers from Ahmedabad were already in Vadodara.
Six persons have been killed and over 60 have been so far injured in violence that broke out after a 200-year-old dargah was demolished in the city on Monday.
