They had also planned to stage a demonstration at Khalilabad but Cantonment police took them in custody. They were released later.

Secretary of union Hareshyam Singh Shrinetra, former vice president Dr Mahendra Rai, Rajkumar Rai, Umesh Dubey and others expressed their concern over killing of student leaders and demanded better security arrangements near educational institutions.

Student union president Rajiv Pandey expressed satisfaction over the arrest of three persons accused of Rakesh Maurya’s murder and demanded that the chief minister should give Rs 5 lakh compensation to the Maurya’s family.

It is to be noted that the killing of student leaders generated serious resentment among the students and their agitation also spread in other districts of the division including Deoria and Maharajganj. They forced the closure of educational institution and blocked traffic movement at different places to mount pressure on the government for arrest of the accused.
