DESPITE SEVERAL measures taken by Allahabad University (AU) authorities, it seems the student leaders have once again succeeded in making it to the admission merit list this year too— albeit by keeping their past academic record out of the admission forms with the aim of misleading the varsity authorities.

Sources say many a student leaders have deceived the varsity authorities and have secured a place in the merit list of the Post Graduate Admission Test (PGAT)- 2006.

There is now fear that these 'students' who have been studying in the varsity for the past several years will be taking admissions in post-graduate and doctoral courses allegedly only with the intention of becoming eligible to contest student union polls and once again getting back to their old ways.

Head of AU's Anthropology Department Prof VS Sahai said that AU Admission Committee in its last meeting decided to scrutinise the application forms and reject the application of those candidates who have possessed MA degree and aspiring for PGAT-06.

Taking cognisance of the move the student leaders applied for the PGAT-06 without mentioning their complete academic records and succeeded in securing place in the merit list.

Prof VS Sahai alleged that some of these student leaders have been continuously harassing and misbehaving with him and research scholars of the anthropology department to confirm their admissions. He said that despite the fact that I have refused to check the answer-sheets of PGAT-06, some of the student leaders have been blaming him for awarding low marks in PGAT-06.

"The information brochure of PGAT-06 has been modified and it has been made clear that students already having an MA degree will have to present valid reasons for their desire to pursue another course in MA from the varsity. The admission of such selected candidates who already have one or more post-graduate degrees will lie on the discretion of the AU admission committee after taking their past records into consideration", added Prof Sahai.
