IN A bid to sort out the dispute over supply of water to individuals through tankers, the Bhopal Municipal Corporation administration has decided that every corporator could recommend for two trips of water tankers in a day. However, the fee fixed for the tanker would be deducted from the corporator’s discretionary fund.
This was decided after the corporators submitted a memorandum to Mayor Sunil Sood. Besides BMC Commissioner Manish Singh and BMC chairman Ramdayal Prajapati, the corporators of both the parties - Bharatiya Janata Party and Congress - were present on the occasion.
It was decided that the corporators could send the tanker for the public supply on their written recommendation. The fee meant for the tankers would be deducted accordingly from the corporator’s discretionary fund. The BMC administration would hire the private tankers through the fund deducted from the corporator’s fee.
The officials believe that this would reduce the demand of corporators, who used to press them to supply water for the construction works and marriage ceremonies.
In the memorandum submitted to the BMC Commissioner, the Bharatiya Janata Party corporators demanded that there should be no change in the arrangement of water supply through tankers.
The corporators also said that the restriction on supply through tankers to individuals has increased the problems for the residents of their respective wards where the tankers were being sent earlier on the recommendation of corporators. The Congress corporators also supported a similar memorandum plea.

{{/usCountry}}However, the BMC Commissioner pleaded that the restriction has improved the water supply in the slums and the areas dependent on supply through tankers. But the corporators claimed that the slums in their areas were still facing water crisis. The corporators had agreed to stop supply through tankers for the construction and marriage ceremonies.

THE BHOPAL Municipal Corporation Commissioner’s order on restricted water supply through tankers has brought in some revenue to the BMC’s kitty. According to information, people today paid Rs 14,000 for tanker supply. The BMC provides water at a rate of Rs 400 per tanker. The officials said hardly anyone asked for this paid service before this order.
