In their first strike at an election rally in the Valley, unidentified militants killed a 14-year-old boy and injured two National Conference (NC) activists in a grenade attack on Tuesday.
The militants hurled the grenade at the motorcade of an NC candidate proceeding to a campaign meeting at Brath village in North Kashmir’s Sopore district, 45 km from Srinagar. The boy — Afaq Ahmad Ganai — died on the spot, a police officer said.

In Sopore, the grenade was tossed at NC candidate Mohammad Ashraf’s motorcade as it was entering Brath village, where the rally had been organised.
Sopore and 17 other constituencies of Baramullah, Budgam, Udhampur and Reasi districts, is going to the polls in the fourth phase in the state on December 7.
In more anti-election violence, an angry mob attacked four poll vehicles at Shopian in south Kashmir. Shabir Ahmed Wani, a local resident, said on the phone that the “vehicles were attacked with iron rods and stones by the mob”.
