Upset over their unruly behaviour in Parliament, the Congress high command has directed party MPs from Telangana not to disrupt the proceedings in the house.
They have been also asked to “lie low” till the crucial assembly elections are over in five states since the party leaders would be busy with campaigning and other election-related matters. “It will not be fair on their part to aggravate the matter,” the party leadership told them with a promise that a decision on Telangana would be taken after the polls.
The MPs have assured the party brass that they will not stall the House proceedings during the budget session but that they would continue with their agitation — outside and in Andhra Pradesh.
“We will follow the high command’s directions. We will not disrupt the proceedings in parliament but agitate outside…in the state,” Peddapalle MP Gaddam Vivekanand said.
The Congress MPs from Telangana had stalled the proceedings in Parliament few times during the session.
The members, in an unprecedented move, had disrupted President Pratibha Patil’s address to the joint session of Parliament by carrying placards and shouting slogans in the central hall.
A UPA minister said this was unexpected behaviour from ruling party MPs. “We are disgusted.” Some suggested that the party’s working committee revamp was an indication how the leadership had taken their “behaviour”.
